VII. RULES OF CONDUCT
A. All members of the Juilliard community shall comply with City, State and Federal laws and ordinances affecting the maintenance of order on Juilliard premises. Conduct that is in violation of such laws and ordinances occurring on Juilliard premises may be subject to both Juilliard discipline and public sanctions as circumstances may warrant or dictate. Conduct that is in violation of such laws and ordinances occurring off Juilliard premises will ordinarily not be subject to Juilliard discipline, unless such conduct seriously affects the interests of Juilliard or the position of the member within the Juilliard community or occurs in close proximity to Juilliard premises and is connected with violative conduct on Juilliard premises.
B. Faculty members are expected to observe the rules and regulations of Juilliard, as set forth and as may be amended from time to time, in this handbook or future publications. Faculty members are not to engage in any enterprise or activity which may, in the judgment of Juilliard, interfere with the proper performance of duties to Juilliard, and are to conduct themselves at all times in a manner so as to promote the principles and ideals for which Juilliard stands. Examples of unacceptable behavior at Juilliard include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Falsification of employment information or other School records.
- Unauthorized possession, use or copying of School records or disclosure of information contained in such records to unauthorized persons.
- Possession of firearms or other types of weapons while on School premises.
- Theft or misappropriation of property belonging to the School, to a student, or to another School employee.
- Failing or refusing to perform satisfactorily the duties and responsibilities of the job or related duties as assigned.
- Violation of the Sexual Harassment policy.
- Violation of the Drug-Free Workplace policy.
C. When a faculty member is deemed responsible for a violation of acceptable rules of conduct, an effort shall be made to resolve the matter informally under the direction of the Dean. When the matter cannot be resolved informally, the President will determine an appropriate sanction for the violation. Sanctions that may be imposed include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Censure - Disapproval of a faculty member’s actions expressed to the faculty member by the President, Dean or Division Director.
- Reprimand - A formal, written disapproval of the actions of a faculty member given by the President, Dean or Division Director, which will reside in the Personnel File.
- Removal of privileges - May include loss of library privileges, inability to use facilities or other privileges related to being a member of the Juilliard community.
- Suspension - Faculty member may be barred from teaching and/or other responsibilities for a specified period of time without compensation.
- Termination - Removal from all teaching and/or other responsibilities. This includes loss of all benefits and compensation and termination of the contract of employment.
