If you already have a system that is below the minimum requirements above,
it may still work at Juilliard. Keep in mind though that a computer system that
only meets but does not exceed these recommendations is nearing the end of its
useful life span and will likely need to be replaced during your time at Juilliard.
Check your computer's specifications against the computer and Ethernet hardware
recommendations to be sure that it will work at Juilliard. If your computer
does not meet those recommended minimums, you should consider upgrading it
or purchasing a new one. Don't hesitate to contact ResNet (telephone 212.799.5000
x7121); email: helpdesk@juilliard.edu)
or the HelpDesk with any questions about your computer's compatibility with
Juilliard's environment.
Ethernet Cards
If you already have a computer, you may need to purchase and install an Ethernet
card. Be sure it is one of the recommended cards for your model of computer,
and have the card, as well as the associated software, installed when you purchase
it.

Choose a computer system that is based on the above recommendations. Spend
as much as you can afford to; the more you invest, the longer the system will
remain viable. Systems at the bottom of the current product lines are often
available at considerable savings but will have a shorter life span. Avoid sales
and closeout deals that fall below these recommendations.
Juilliard does not sell computers to students, faculty, or staff. However,
most companies offer educational discounts to qualified purchasers. Often, the
only thing you need to qualify for one of these discounts is your Juilliard
(or other school) ID. If you are affiliated with Juilliard, and wish to purchase
a computer, please visit some of the sites below to get current educational
pricing.
The Information Technology Department can't recommend specific systems, since
users' needs vary, and any recommendation would quickly become outdated. Any
new system will easily fulfill most users' computing needs, such as checking
e-mail, browsing the Web, and word processing. As of this writing, we recommend
the minimum specifications:
